ICE Arrests Nine African Illegal Immigrants with Criminal Records in NYC Chinatown Raid
New York City, USA – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested nine illegal African immigrants during a targeted raid on Chinatown’s Canal Street on Tuesday, October 20, authorities confirmed.
The operation, which focused on counterfeit goods and criminal activity, targeted vendors selling knockoff designer bags and stolen items along the busy stretch between Lafayette and Centre Streets.
“ICE conducted a targeted, intelligence-driven enforcement operation on Canal Street in New York City, focused on criminal activity relating to selling counterfeit goods,” said Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security.
Federal officials noted that all nine individuals were in the country illegally, with six of them holding criminal records. Charges included robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assaulting law enforcement officers, drug trafficking, drug possession, forgery, and counterfeiting. Among those arrested was Ndiaye, who had multiple prior arrests for robbery, domestic violence, drug-related offenses, and forgery.
“ICE arrested nine illegal aliens with criminal histories including robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assaulting law enforcement, counterfeiting, drug trafficking, drug possession and forgery,” McLaughlin added.
Most of the individuals apprehended were reportedly released into the U.S. under the Biden administration before their arrests. All nine are currently in custody for deportation proceedings.
The raid underscores continued federal efforts to combat criminal activity among illegal immigrants and address the persistent issue of counterfeit goods sales in NYC’s Chinatown.
