LAGOS, Dec. 8, 2025 (Naija247news) – The Tomatoes Growers and Processors Association of Nigeria has forecast an increase in tomato supply ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities, signaling a likely decline in market prices.

The association’s Chairman, Mr. Rabiu Zuntu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that higher harvest volumes are driving down prices. He said in northern Nigeria, a 50kg basket of tomatoes now sells between N15,000 and N16,000, down from N25,000–N30,000 last week and N40,000–N60,000 in previous months.

Zuntu added that several farms have yet to begin harvesting, and as supply continues to rise, consumers can expect stable availability throughout the holiday season. In Lagos, a 50kg basket currently sells between N40,000 and N50,000, while a crate goes for N15,000 to N18,000.

The association advised that the price trends reflect normal market forces of supply and demand and assured Nigerians that the festive period would see sufficient tomato stocks across major markets. (NAN)
