Lokoja, Jan. 4, 2026 (Naija247news) — Terrorists have attacked Idofin community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one resident and leaving another seriously injured, further deepening fears over worsening insecurity in the area.

Sources told Naija247news that the attack occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, when armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire.

The deceased was identified as a Tiv man, while another indigene of Idofin sustained severe injuries during the assault. A local information platform, Egbe Mekun, reported that the injured victim was later evacuated by military personnel and taken to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kogi State Government nor the Nigerian Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident.

Residents of Idofin and neighbouring communities have continued to express growing anxiety over repeated security breaches in Yagba East, calling on the state government and security agencies to urgently strengthen patrols and intelligence operations to prevent further attacks.

The latest incident comes amid rising violence across parts of Kogi State. Naija247news recalls that Ayetoro-Kiri community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area was recently thrown into mourning after three abducted residents were confirmed dead, despite the payment of a ransom raised through communal efforts.

Although seven abductees were eventually released by their captors, community sources disclosed that three were already dead upon arrival, while four others were rushed to hospital, where they are currently battling for their lives. About 30 other residents were said to remain in captivity, with their fate still uncertain.

In a statement signed by the community spokesperson, David Ampitan, residents accused authorities of failing to take decisive action to protect lives, rescue kidnapped victims, or pursue the perpetrators. The statement further alleged that the Kogi State Government, acting through the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, responded to peaceful protests by deploying tear gas and arresting demonstrators who were demanding improved security, justice, and the rescue of their abducted relatives.
