Abuja, Nov. 25, 2025 (Naija247news/NAN) – The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Tuesday said Nigeria’s new tax reforms will eliminate multiple taxation and create a transparent, business-friendly revenue system to support growth and competitiveness.

ACCI President Chief Emeka Obegolu made the announcement at a high-level meeting of business leaders and experts tagged Abuja Business Tax Roundtable 2025, themed “Demystifying the New Tax Laws.”

Obegolu said the event aimed to address business concerns ahead of the 2026 fiscal transition, as four major tax bills recently signed by President Bola Tinubu come into effect on January 1, 2026.

“These reforms aim to modernise and harmonise taxation, eliminate multiple taxation, strengthen administration, and create a revenue system that is transparent, inclusive, and business-friendly,” he said.

The four landmark bills include the Nigeria Tax (Ease of Doing Business) Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, which Obegolu described as a “bold and strategic restructuring of our national tax system.”

He emphasised that businesses still faced challenges interpreting the reforms, highlighting the need for clarity on compliance requirements, operational adjustments, and transition procedures.

Obegolu added that the roundtable would provide answers for MSMEs, corporate institutions, start-ups, and professional service firms, covering growth alignment, private sector readiness, digital taxation, compliance innovations, and the 2026 fiscal framework.

Represented at the meeting by Mr Victor Kajesomo, FIRS Chairman Dr Zacch Adedeji said the reforms would support businesses through zero per cent income tax, capital gains tax exemptions, and other reliefs to offset accumulated losses.

ACCI Director-General Mr Agabaidu Jideani said the reforms were designed to expand Nigeria’s revenue base, modernise tax administration, reduce inefficiencies, and create a predictable environment for investment.

Also speaking, FCT-IRS Executive Chairman Mr Michael Ango emphasised that modernised tax systems reduce compliance burdens, foster voluntary compliance, and encourage investment. He was represented by Mrs Nneka Nwachukwu of FCT-IRS.

The ACCI Women-in-Business Chairperson, Mrs Chioma Njoku, said the reforms offered benefits for women entrepreneurs, households, and the informal sector. She urged gender-responsive implementation, sustained awareness campaigns, and simplified processes to ensure women across rural and informal sectors fully benefit.
