A 65-year-old herbalist, Olatunde Ogini, was on Friday docked at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly obtaining N140,000 under false pretences.
The accused is facing a charge of obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Mary Ajiteru, said the accused committed the offence at 10, Igbajo St., Irawo in Ajegunle area of Ikorodu on Feb.10.
She alleged that the accused obtained the money (N140, 000) from one Mrs Olufunmilayo Oyeleye on the pretext of curing her husband of an ailment.
After collecting the money, the accused disappeared, Ajiteru added.
The offence, according to her, contravenes Section 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr W.B. Balogun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 provides a penalty of 15 years imprisonment for offenders.
The case was adjourned to April 22 for further hearing
