Abuja, Dec. 27, 2025 (Naija247news) – Nationwide electricity generation has improved following the completion of repairs to the vandalised Lagos–Escravos gas supply line, the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) said on Friday. The restoration has boosted gas supply to key thermal power plants, helping to stabilise the national grid and enhance power availability for consumers.
Gas supply restoration drives generation
In a statement from its Abuja office, NISO credited the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) for completing the pipeline repairs, which have translated into increased electricity generation. The operator said affected thermal power plants are gradually ramping up output to ensure a smooth recovery and maintain grid stability.
“This development is a positive step towards stabilising electricity supply and improving grid reliability for consumers nationwide,” the statement said.
Gradual integration to ensure grid stability
NISO explained that the phased power offtake is necessary to prevent system stress and ensure reliable electricity for industries, businesses, and households. Other thermal power plants remain on standby, awaiting confirmation of gas supply, after which they will be integrated into the national grid to further strengthen generation capacity and reduce the risk of outages.
Stakeholder collaboration ongoing
The system operator said it continues to work closely with power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory bodies to monitor developments and address operational challenges in real time. NISO also urged consumers to practice energy conservation while coordinated efforts to stabilise the power supply continue.
