The Kano State Hisbah Board has made headlines with the arrest of Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa Commissioner of Special Duties. He was reportedly caught having an extramarital affair with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, a married woman. The two were discovered in an uncompleted building owned by Sankara.

Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, confirmed the arrest, explaining that it stemmed from complaints filed by Nabegu’s husband’s younger brother. He alleged that the commissioner was involved in various illicit activities. “Yes, it is true we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him,” Sufi stated. “Unbeknownst to him, we had been tracking him based on reports we received.”

Nabegu’s husband, Nasiru Bulama, took the matter seriously and lodged complaints not just with the Hisbah Board but also with the Kano State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), alleging Sankara’s involvement in inappropriate relations with his wife, who is the mother of his two children.

According to Sufi, Sankara will face multiple charges in court on Monday, which include engaging in an extramarital affair, operating unlicensed drug centers disguised as hotels—reportedly named Picklock and 360 among others—and promoting both prostitution and drug addiction. This case is stirring considerable attention, highlighting serious concerns within the community.
