NBTE accredits 2 new courses at LASPOTECH

Date:

The Rector, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Mr Abioye Lawal, said on Wednesday that the institution had been granted accreditation to run two new academic programmes.

Lawal told reporters that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had accredited Horticultural Technology at National Diploma level and Fisheries Technology for the Higher Diploma (HND) level.

He said students had already been admitted to study the two newly-accredited courses.

“At the outset of the ongoing 2013/2014 academic session, we were granted accreditation to run two new academic programmes.

“They are Horticultural Technology for ND and Fisheries Technology for HND.

“This will bring the total number of NBTE- accredited courses in the polytechnic to 54.

“The position of the polytechnic administration is that all new programmes to be introduced must be demand-driven and shall be in line with national development aspirations,’’ Lawal said.

Lawal said the institution had been working tirelessly to provide equipment that would enhance the teaching of the new programmes.

The rector added:“The institution is committed to its vow of becoming a world-class tertiary institution, whose mission is to extend the frontiers of knowledge through teaching, research, creative works and community service.

“To that end, we have continued our long tradition of providing quality education to meet the needs of our nation and the world at large.

“Therefore, the polytechnic management has continued to facilitate the provision of essential facilities and environment that will enhance the conduct of teaching and research of the new programmes.’’

Lawal urged the NBTE to consider accrediting more courses at the institution to enable it to admit more students.
