ICPC advises PCC to form synergy with government security agencies

Date:

Ekpo-Nta-ICPC1Mr Ekpo Nta, the Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), has advised the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) to form a synergy with other government security agencies for optimal performance.

Nta gave the advise on Friday in Abuja at a two-day retreat to mark the 40th anniversary of PCC.

The theme of the retreat is; “Repositioning the Ombudsman for Better Performance’’.

The ICPC boss, who spoke on the topic: Complaints of Respondents and the Burden of Low Response’’, said such synergy was necessary to enable the commission carry out its responsibility effectively.

He also advised the PCC to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with law enforcement agencies to enable them key into its operations.

Nta added that the commission’s success in its assignment could be dependent on its designing responsive systems and educating other government agencies on its activities.

He added that there was also the need for the commission’s investigators to be given constitutional backing if they must be effective in the discharge of their assignments.

Nta pledged that the ICPC would, on its part, continue to collaborate with the commission to help it achieve its objectives.

The ICPC boss decried situations where some Nigerians run down the country’s institutions on social media, adding that it was inimical to the development of the country.

Also speaking, PCC Chief Commissioner, Mr Emmanuel Ogbile, said although the commission was financially constrained, it would live up to the expectations of Nigerians.

He said the commission at 40, was celebrating the wisdom of its founding fathers in establishing it and the trust placed on it by the government and people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that PCC was established in 1975 by the regime of Gen. Yakubu Gowon as an official platform to seek redress from administrative injustice.

The commission had on Oct. 15, launched its IComplain platform designed to enable the public to lodge complaints and follow up progress report from their homes or offices using toll free lines.

A complainant is required to dial 0800426675246 and formally lay his complaint or go to the commission`s website, www. Icomplain.org.

Most of PCC state commissioners at the retreat, said lack of cooperation from some government agencies was a major challenge to their operations
