Osun State – Moshood Adeoti, a former ally of ex-Osun State Secretary to the Government Rauf Aregbesola, is reportedly considering a return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sources said on Thursday.
Adeoti had formally withdrawn his allegiance to Aregbesola and exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC)amid speculation that the party plans to hand its 2026 governorship ticket to former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Najeem Salam.
The political trajectory of Adeoti has been eventful. He contested the 2018 governorship election under the African Democratic Party (ADP), garnering 49,745 votes after leaving the APC near the end of Aregbesola’s administration. He later returned to the APC in 2020, amid tensions between Aregbesola and his successor, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. In 2022, Adeoti was considered Aregbesola’s preferred candidate and remained in his camp until recent developments.
According to insiders, top APC leaders have been wooing Adeoti following his exit from Aregbesola’s camp. “Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and associates of Governor Ademola Adeleke have been romancing our leader,” a source said. “But I can confirm that he prefers APC because they are giving him close marking.”
Efforts to reach Adeoti for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, APC Secretary in Osun State, Kamoru Alao, confirmed that talks are ongoing. “The party leadership is still talking with Adeoti. We are on course,” he said.
Analysts say Adeoti’s potential return to the APC could reshape the dynamics of the Osun 2026 governorship race, as his political influence and past electoral performance could significantly impact party strategies.
