Enugu, Nov. 1, 2025 (NAN) – The Enugu Sports Club has appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to address ongoing encroachments on the club’s land, particularly at its Golf Course in Enugu.

Chief Ifeanyi Nweke, the newly inaugurated Executive Chairman of the club, made the appeal on Saturday during the swearing-in of the club’s 23-member executive team at the club’s auditorium.

Nweke noted that the unauthorized activities were creating conflicts and posing threats to the club’s integrity and property. He further urged the government to assist in boosting the club’s revenue by helping complete its abandoned hotel project and providing an ambulance to address emergency health needs.

The chairman also requested support for installing additional solar energy systems to reduce electricity and diesel costs, as well as a donation of N10 million to furnish staff quarters.

“We are appealing for general support from Your Excellency on many fronts to help the club meet its current obligations and futuristic plans to reposition it as the best in the country,” Nweke said.

He commended Governor Mbah for his efforts to have Enugu State host the upcoming National Sports Festival, noting that sections of the club were designated to host some of the festival’s events. He urged the government to help bring facilities up to international standards and provide state-of-the-art fittings for the sports events.

Nweke praised Mbah’s “inspirational leadership” and determination to transform Enugu State rapidly, describing the state’s development trajectory as a national reference point.

Chief Nnia Nwodo, former President of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo and Chairman of the event, commended Nweke for “hitting the ground running” and urged past leaders and members to support him. Nwodo also called for the revitalization of the club’s children’s section, emphasizing educational and cultural programs.

Responding on behalf of the governor, Dame Ugochi Madueke, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, praised the club’s achievements and ongoing projects. Governor Mbah, who also serves as the club’s President, lauded members for their unity and commitment to development and assured continued support for the new executive team.

The event also featured the swearing-in of the new executives and the presentation of Awards of Excellence to notable personalities across the country.
