
Benin, Dec. 15, 2025 (Naija247news) – The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed that Governor Monday Okpebholo will present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to lawmakers on Tuesday, December 16, Speaker Chief Blessing Agbebaku announced during plenary at the Assembly complex in Benin on Monday. Agbebaku urged legislators to attend the session fully prepared to scrutinize the proposed budget.
In the same session, the Speaker issued a stern warning to contractors handling state projects, urging them to cooperate with the special ad hoc committee tasked with monitoring project execution across Edo State. He emphasized that the committee was performing its lawful oversight duties and cautioned that any contractor delivering substandard work could face contract revocation by the governor upon recommendation by the House.
“The House will not tolerate any contractor performing shoddy jobs. This serves as a clear warning to all contractors handling state projects. We will not hesitate to write to Governor Monday Okpebholo to revoke contracts of contractors who fail to deliver quality work,” Agbebaku stated.
Additionally, the Speaker officially announced the defection of the lawmaker representing Oredo East, Mr. Omosigho Uyi, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). With this development, the number of APC lawmakers in the Edo Assembly has risen to 21, further consolidating the ruling party’s strength in the House.
The 2026 Appropriation Bill, set for presentation on Tuesday, is expected to outline Edo State’s fiscal priorities and capital projects for the coming year, with lawmakers poised to deliberate on allocations across sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and social services.
