The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has attributed recent disruptions in telecommunications services across parts of Abuja to challenges in diesel supply affecting critical network infrastructure operated by IHS Nigeria Limited.
The disclosure followed mounting complaints from subscribers who have experienced intermittent calls, slow data services, and prolonged network outages in recent days. In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the NCC’s Head of Public Affairs, Nnenna Ukoha, acknowledged the quality-of-service concerns and assured Nigerians that the regulator is actively working to address the situation.
Naija247News gathered that the service disruptions are linked to ongoing actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which have reportedly interfered with the steady delivery of diesel to telecommunications sites. Diesel remains a major power source for base stations and transmission facilities, particularly in areas where grid electricity is unreliable.
According to the NCC, IHS Nigeria Limited, one of Africa’s largest independent owners and operators of telecom towers, has been significantly affected by the diesel supply challenges, resulting in downtime at several critical sites within the Federal Capital Territory.
