The Consumer Protection Council, CPC, on Monday announced commencement of investigative sitting into the operations of MultiChoice Nigeria through its Digital Satellite Television.
The council said the probe became necessary based on alleged consumer rights violation against the pay-television firm.
The council disclosed that a four-man team led by MultiChoice’s Regulatory Affairs Manager had responded to questions from the council’s investigating panel, comprising relevant staff members and a team of consultants.
The CPC said in a statement that its Director-General, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, said the investigation will be conducted at the headquarters of the agency in Abuja.
The council had in a notice of commencement of investigation recently served on MultiChoice stated that it had been inundated with a barrage of consumer complaints alleging wide-range abuse of subscribers’ rights.
Over the years, many Nigerians have complained about the services of the South-Africa owned company with regulatory agencies doing little to check the alleged excesses.
Atoki, however, added that the investigation would help the CPC know the challenges the firm might be facing in the discharge of its services, with a view to proffering solutions for the enhanced welfare of its consumers.
