Lagos State Government has reiterated that the long-awaited relocation of the popular Computer Village in Ikeja to the new ICT and Business Park in Katangowa, Agbado-Oke-Odo, is set to become a reality soon.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, during a stakeholders’ meeting held recently in Alausa, Lagos.
The move, which has been a subject of intense discussion between the Lagos State Government and market stakeholders, is aimed at decongesting the current site while providing a more organized and modern environment for traders.
Arc. Oki explained that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration is fully committed to completing the relocation after several years of unsuccessful attempts. “The current site, originally a residential area, has been adversely affected by unplanned development, displacing many residents,” he noted.
According to the senior government official, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision for sustainable urban development has guided the selection and planning of the new site. “The government will provide a 15-hectare site equipped with trailer parks, hotels, banks, a police station, fire station, and other community amenities,” Oki said, emphasizing the commitment to a seamless transition.
The developer in charge of the new site, Sam Ajose, confirmed that a flexible payment plan would be available to ease the relocation process. He also thanked the Lagos State Government and traders for their continued cooperation.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Abisola Azeez, the Iya Oloja of Computer Village, expressed confidence after the briefing, urging the developer to strictly adhere to the design specifications and timelines to ensure the project’s completion.
It is important to note that traders were previously given an 18-month deadline to relocate to Katangowa by the Lagos State Government. During the meeting, Arc. Oki called for the cooperation of all stakeholders, stressing that the time to make the relocation a reality is now.
First proposed in 2006, the relocation had faced repeated delays due to slow development work. The new Katangowa site, spanning 15 hectares, has now been fully prepared with the necessary facilities to support modern ICT businesses.
