The Nigerian Army has formally inducted 3,439 newly trained soldiers into active service, with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major-General Waidi Shaibu, charging them to uphold loyalty, discipline and professionalism as they begin their military careers.
The new soldiers, drawn from the 89 Regular Intake, completed six months of rigorous military training at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State. They were presented to the nation during a colourful passing-out parade that marked the culmination of months of physical, mental and tactical preparation.
Addressing the recruits as the reviewing officer and special guest of honour, Major-General Shaibu described the parade as a clear demonstration of resilience, commitment and perseverance. Naija247News gathered that the COAS emphasised that the successful completion of the demanding training programme was evidence that the recruits had been moulded to meet the core values and standards of the Nigerian Army.
He reminded the new soldiers that their induction comes at a critical period when the nation continues to confront evolving security challenges, including domestic and transnational threats. According to him, the addition of over 3,000 trained personnel significantly strengthens the Army’s manpower and operational capacity across the country.
Naija247News understands that the army chief stressed that the profession of arms demands more than courage, urging the recruits to demonstrate integrity, respect for human rights and absolute loyalty to the Nigerian state. He cautioned them against actions that could tarnish the image of the military, noting that discipline remains the bedrock of effective soldiering.
“Your induction today not only boosts our manpower but reinforces our commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians,” Shaibu said. He added that the oath taken by the recruits must guide their conduct throughout their service, whether in training, deployment or peacekeeping operations.
The COAS also commended the Depot Nigerian Army for its long-standing contribution to national security, recalling that the institution has produced professional soldiers since 1924. Naija247News reports that he assured the depot of continued support in areas of logistics, training infrastructure and personnel welfare to enhance its capacity to deliver world-class military training.
Major-General Shaibu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the Armed Forces, as well as to the Kaduna State Government, the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Bamalli, and other security agencies for their cooperation in ensuring a successful training exercise.
He further praised the commandant, instructors and support staff of the depot for their dedication in shaping a new generation of soldiers. As the recruits march into active service, the Army leadership expressed confidence that they will contribute meaningfully to national peace, stability and security.
