Uyo, Nov. 25, 2025 (Naija247news/NAN) – Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom on Tuesday presented a N1.39 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly, highlighting investments in infrastructure, rural development, and food security.

The governor said recurrent expenditure would amount to N354.87 billion, while N1.035 trillion was earmarked for capital projects. The 2026 budget, dubbed “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” represents a 16 per cent decrease from the 2025 revised budget of N1.65 trillion.

Eno said the total capital receipts and expenditure for 2026 is projected at N1.15 trillion, up from the revised provision of N897.14 billion in 2025.

He outlined plans to boost food security through mechanised agriculture, small-holder production, and value chain development. “Income earning potentials of rural households will be enhanced through home farm schemes, access to farm inputs, credit and extension services, and agro-processing support,” he said.

The governor also pledged to electrify rural communities, upgrade and construct rural roads, and renovate primary healthcare facilities. He said ongoing flagship projects such as roads, bridges, aviation, and health facilities would be completed, alongside new initiatives critical for connectivity, trade, investment, and job creation.

Projected revenues for the year include N1.17 trillion recurrent revenue, slightly below 2025 estimates, and N791.98 billion capital receipts from the consolidated revenue fund, with the remaining N243.16 billion expected from other sources.

Governor Eno urged the House to expedite passage of the budget to deliver tangible democracy dividends to the people.

In response, Speaker Udeme Otong called on ministries, departments, and agencies to provide the necessary information for a thorough review. He assured that the House would scrutinise the budget diligently, ensuring efficiency, eliminating waste, and strengthening fiscal discipline.
