AKURE, Dec. 27, 2025 (Naija247news) – Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has paid tribute to the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader whose policies continue to influence governance in the state.
Aiyedatiwa issued the statement on Saturday in Akure to mark the second anniversary of Akeredolu’s death.
He said the late governor was a strong advocate of state policing and led efforts that resulted in the establishment of the South-West Security Network, Amotekun Corps, to address insecurity in the region.
According to him, Akeredolu’s role in regional mobilisation redefined discussions on decentralised policing in Nigeria and strengthened security coordination among South-West states.
The governor also recalled his long association with the late leader, noting that Akeredolu emphasised leadership development, succession planning and institutional stability during his tenure.
Aiyedatiwa said the former governor mentored emerging leaders and believed in constitutional transition, which helped shape his own approach to governance.
He added that the state would continue to honour Akeredolu’s legacy and support the foundation established by his family to preserve his memory.
“As government and people of Ondo State, we remember and honour Arakunrin Akeredolu on the second anniversary of his passing,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The governor urged residents to draw inspiration from Akeredolu’s commitment to justice, equity and unity, noting that his contributions remain visible in security reforms and governance structures in the state.
