Zulum Distributes 63 Patrol Vehicles to Boost Security Operations in Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has distributed 63 patrol vehicles to security agencies and community defence groups in Maiduguri as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and sustain peace in the state. The vehicles are expected to enhance mobility, improve surveillance, and increase the operational capacity of security formations tackling insurgency, banditry, and other forms of criminality across the state.

The distribution ceremony, held in Maiduguri, brought together heads of security agencies, government officials, and representatives of community vigilante groups. Governor Zulum explained that the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to providing logistical support to security agencies to enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.

According to him, the 63 patrol vehicles were allocated to various agencies and community security outfits operating in different parts of the state. Out of the total, 30 vehicles were handed over to the ten sectors of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), while 16 went to the Rapid Response and Anti-Social Vices Squad. Ten vehicles were distributed to paramilitary organisations, six to the local hunters, and one to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to maintain peace in Borno, stating that the government would continue to provide all necessary support to security formations. “We will not relent in our efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in every part of Borno State. Security remains our top priority because without peace, there can be no development,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the various security commands for their continued collaboration with the state government in combating insurgency and other criminal activities. The governor also called for increased cooperation among agencies, noting that joint operations remain the most effective way to secure communities and restore livelihoods.

Present at the event were the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur; the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; the Commissioner of Police, Borno Command, Naziru Abdulmajid; the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adamu Umar; and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdulrazaq Haroon. Also in attendance were members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

Security experts and stakeholders have praised the initiative, describing it as a proactive approach to addressing insecurity at the grassroots. They noted that the provision of vehicles to local security outfits such as the CJTF and hunters would improve community policing and quick response to distress calls. The measure, they said, also complements the efforts of the military and police in securing the region against the remnants of insurgent groups.

However, analysts cautioned that while the provision of logistics is commendable, the sustainability of such interventions would depend on regular maintenance, effective coordination, and proper accountability. They urged the government to create a monitoring framework to ensure that the vehicles are used strictly for security purposes and not diverted for personal use.

Governor Zulum has over the years gained national recognition for his hands-on approach to governance, particularly in the areas of security, reconstruction, and humanitarian response. Since assuming office in 2019, he has made several interventions in providing vehicles, equipment, and welfare support to security agencies and volunteers fighting to protect Borno communities from insurgent attacks.

The governor’s administration has also continued to rehabilitate displaced persons, rebuild destroyed communities, and encourage the safe return of residents to their ancestral homes. His latest move, observers say, reaffirms his consistent focus on strengthening community resilience and restoring confidence in the government’s capacity to protect lives and property.

Governor Zulum’s distribution of 63 patrol vehicles underscores his administration’s unrelenting drive to consolidate peace and strengthen the state’s security architecture. The move reflects Borno’s gradual transition from crisis management to long-term stability and development. While challenges remain, the initiative reinforces the importance of collaboration between government, security agencies, and communities in sustaining peace and rebuilding the state’s socio-economic fabric.
