Ibadan, Oct. 31, 2025 (NAN) – In a move aimed at boosting grassroots economic activities, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Friday disbursed N100 million in business support grants to traders, artisans, and farmers across Oyo State.
The initiative, part of the ‘2025 Mega Empowerment and Economic Relief Programme Series,’ took place at the Bayo Adelabu Foundation House in Ibadan, drawing local business owners and community leaders.
Adelabu, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) deputy governor and a gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the programme was designed to alleviate economic hardship and strengthen small-scale businesses amid rising inflation and cost-of-living pressures.
“This empowerment is not about politics. I am only thanking God for His mercy by giving back to society,” Adelabu told beneficiaries, stressing that the grants reflect a commitment to entrepreneurship development and economic growth at the grassroots level.
The minister acknowledged the financial challenges confronting Nigerians and called for targeted interventions to support traders, artisans, and farmers. He also encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring that ongoing reforms would soon yield tangible benefits.
“President Tinubu is God-sent to Nigeria. Though things are tough now, Nigerians will soon reap the gains of their sacrifices,” he said.
Guest speaker Olutayo Akinleye, a financial expert, commended Adelabu’s initiative, noting that the grants would significantly contribute to entrepreneurial development and local economic growth. He advised beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly and avoid frivolous spending.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation, emphasizing that the financial support would boost their businesses and improve livelihoods.
The empowerment programme marks another step in Oyo State’s efforts to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and promote inclusive economic development.
