Arewa House Denies Alleged Sale of Clinic and Fives Court, Reaffirms Commitment to Northern Heritage

In a statement issued on Thursday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Director of Arewa House, Dr. Salisu Bala, refuted the allegations published by an Abuja-based magazine, asserting they contradict the institution’s core mandate.

“Arewa House categorically states that these claims are entirely false,” Bala stated. “Such reports are not only mischievous but also misrepresent our transparent operations and commitment to the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello.”

Established in 1970 to preserve the legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Arewa House serves as a research hub for northern Nigerian history, promoting scholarship, cultural preservation, and public engagement.

Dr. Bala emphasized that the institution operates under a strict governance framework that includes an independent board of trustees and a governing council. “Our structure guarantees accountability, and our funding sources—ranging from statutory allocations to strategic partnerships—are transparent and well-documented,” he noted.

He reaffirmed Arewa House’s role in safeguarding national heritage, including Sir Ahmadu Bello’s personal artifacts and archival manuscripts. “Our programmes such as the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Annual Lecture stimulate national dialogue on peace, governance, and regional development,” Bala said.

The director also defended a former Vice Chancellor of ABU Zaria, who was mentioned in the alleged publication, describing him as a figure of integrity and due process. “His tenure was marked by transformative leadership and a strict adherence to institutional accountability,” he added.

Calling for responsible journalism, Bala urged the public and media to verify facts before circulating reports. “Spreading unverified claims erodes public trust. Arewa House remains a beacon of historical accountability, integrity, and the cultural soul of Northern Nigeria.”
