TCN Restores Power Supply to Bayelsa, Parts of Rivers After Vandalism-Induced Outage
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Abuja, April 14, 2025 – Naija247news – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk electricity supply via the 132kV Owerri–Ahoada transmission line, reestablishing connection to the national grid after weeks of blackout in Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State.
According to a statement released by Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs at TCN, the line was reconnected to the grid at about 6 p.m. on April 11, following the completion of reconstruction works on the vandalized line.
The transmission line had suffered a major setback on March 11, when four towers (71 to 74) collapsed due to acts of vandalism, plunging several communities in the Niger Delta into darkness.
“With this restoration, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) is now able to supply electricity to Bayelsa and parts of Rivers State, which have been without power since the incident,” Mbah confirmed.
She emphasized TCN’s commitment to ensuring stable and reliable electricity transmission across the country, while urging local communities to take an active role in protecting national infrastructure.
“We encourage host communities to support us in fighting against the vandalisation of our critical transmission facilities,” she said.
The restoration is expected to bring relief to businesses and households affected by the prolonged power outage, especially in Yenagoa and surrounding areas.
