Port Harcourt, April 14, 2025 (Naija247news) – A powerful group of women in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, took to the streets today in a show of support for the ongoing state of emergency imposed in the state. Dressed in white attire, the women gathered early in the morning at Garrison Bus Stop, before marching in solidarity along Aba Road toward the Government House.
Chanting pro-emergency rule slogans, the women voiced their backing for the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), appointed after President Bola Tinubu declared the state of emergency on March 18. The protest comes on the heels of an opposing rally held by ‘Rivers Women for Sim’, which had condemned the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the dissolution of the state assembly.
The declaration of the state of emergency followed months of political tension between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. As part of the emergency measure, the Governor, his deputy, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended for six months, with Ibas stepping in as the interim administrator to steer the state.
While some women rallied in favor of the emergency, the political divide in Rivers continues to deepen, with many still urging the reinstatement of elected officials.
