PDP Governors Dismiss Coalition Talks, Reaffirm Party’s Independent Political Stance

Naija247news gathered that the governors made this known after a closed-door meeting held in Abuja on Monday evening, which was attended by key stakeholders within the PDP fold. The meeting, chaired by the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, emphasized the party’s readiness to reposition itself for future electoral victories without the need to merge or form a coalition with any political group.

Naija247news understands that this decision comes amid growing calls from political analysts and civil society groups urging opposition parties to unite in order to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle. However, PDP governors insist that the party remains a formidable force on its own and is focused on internal reforms, grassroots mobilization, and strategic planning.

According to Naija247news, the governors reiterated their loyalty to the founding principles of the PDP and emphasized the need to strengthen party organs rather than seek external partnerships that could dilute the party’s ideology. “We are not considering any coalition. The PDP remains the largest and most structured political party in Nigeria. Our focus is on reviving the party from within and preparing for the future with a clear and independent agenda,” a source at the meeting stated.

Naija247news reports that the PDP leadership is also planning to hold a national convention later this year to address internal disputes, rejuvenate the party’s administrative framework, and rally members across all six geopolitical zones. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to rebuild public trust and enhance electoral appeal ahead of 2027.

In a joint communique released after the meeting, the PDP governors called for national unity, economic stability, and improved security across the country, while urging the federal government to address the growing hardship faced by Nigerians.
