Naija247News reports that prominent media personality and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has raised serious concerns over the true loyalties of some PDP governors, accusing those opposed to opposition coalitions of covertly working in favor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Naija247news gathered that Momodu made the allegation during a media briefing on Sunday, where he criticized what he described as a “dangerous reluctance” among some PDP governors to form a united front with other opposition parties. He suggested that their refusal to support any coalition effort may not be driven by party interest, but rather by hidden alliances with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Naija247news, Momodu expressed deep worry that such internal sabotage could derail the PDP’s chances of regaining national power, especially as Nigeria heads toward another pivotal electoral cycle in 2027. “It is becoming increasingly clear that some of our governors are either afraid of a strong opposition or are actively collaborating with the ruling party behind the scenes,” he was quoted as saying.
Naija247news understands that the PDP has been embroiled in internal wrangling over its strategy moving forward, particularly concerning proposals to enter into coalition talks with other opposition figures, including members of the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). While some stakeholders believe in a united opposition to challenge APC dominance, a number of PDP governors have openly opposed the idea.
Naija247news reports that Momodu’s remarks have further deepened suspicions within the party ranks and have sparked fresh debates about loyalty and transparency among top PDP leaders. Political analysts note that his comments could trigger a re-evaluation of the party’s internal dynamics and leadership trustworthiness.
In a swift reaction, sources close to some PDP governors dismissed Momodu’s claims as unfounded and divisive. They insisted that opposition to coalition talks is based purely on strategic reasoning, not disloyalty. “We believe the PDP must build from within. We don’t need a coalition to win elections; we need unity and structure,” one governor reportedly said.
