Naija247news – Lagos – In a resounding endorsement of private sector patriotism, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council has commended the Dangote Refinery for its continued reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, describing the move as a game-changer for millions of suffering Nigerians.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The commendation came on the heels of Dangote Refinery’s latest reduction of the ex-depot price of petrol from ₦880 per litre to ₦865, reflecting a ₦15 drop. This latest cut aligns with recent reductions in global crude oil prices.
Speaking in Lagos, the NUJ Council Chairman, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, described the gesture as “timely” and “deeply empathetic,” noting that Dangote has shown himself to be a true partner in national progress during one of the most difficult economic periods in recent Nigerian history.
“I want to emphatically say that the Dangote Refinery is indeed a blessing to all Nigerians,” said Ajayi. “The rollout of petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery has indeed changed the game, and the fuel market is now fully liberalized. This is a major win for the masses.”
Ajayi noted that this is not the first time the refinery has slashed prices, and he expressed optimism that similar interventions will be seen in other sectors of the economy.
“In the last few months, we are all aware that Dangote Refinery has crashed the price of PMS at different intervals. We are very optimistic that such gestures will be extended to other sectors by other industrialists. We need more Dangotes in this country so that Nigeria can be great again.”
“Imagine if we had three or four Dangotes in other key sectors of Nigeria’s economy—our economic progress would have been fast-tracked,” he added.
NUJ Supports Naira-for-Crude Deal, Says Policy Will Boost Local Confidence
In a related development, the NUJ chairman also threw his weight behind the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) recent approval of the long-awaited Naira-for-Crude agreement with local refiners—a move expected to enhance domestic refining capacity and stabilize prices further.
“This is a welcome development that will further boost the confidence of the citizenry. The implementation of this agreement will improve crude supply to local refineries, which will in turn improve living conditions for Nigerians.”
Ajayi concluded by urging more private sector players to emulate Dangote’s bold leadership and compassion during these challenging times, emphasizing the critical role of industrialists in cushioning the effects of economic reforms on ordinary Nigerians.
The NUJ’s commendation is the latest in a string of endorsements for the Dangote Refinery, which has been hailed as a potential turning point in Nigeria’s decades-long battle with fuel import dependency and price instability.
