“We are committed to ensuring that projects meet the required standard” – Agbedi Pledges Strict Oversight on FCT Road Projects

Abuja, April 11, 2025 (NAN) – The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ancillary Matters has vowed to provide strict supervision of road projects within the territory to ensure quality and timely delivery. This pledge was made by the committee’s chairman, Rep. Fred Agbedi (PDP-Bayelsa), during an oversight visit to three ongoing road projects being handled by the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the FCT.

The committee’s commitment to overseeing these projects stems from the desire to guarantee that the FCT road projects meet set standards and that citizens receive value for their money. According to Agbedi, “We, as parliament, are ready to work with the ministry to ensure that funds are made available and appropriated to deliver service to our people.”

During the visit, Agbedi highlighted the importance of ensuring that the projects are completed on schedule, benefiting communities such as Ushafa and its neighboring areas. “Work is in progress; the ministry has come with quite a good service delivery to the people of Ushafa and neighboring communities,” he added.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the progress, though Agbedi emphasized the need for the contractor to uphold the terms of the contract and ensure quality in the final execution. “What we are here for is to ensure that there is value for money, as appropriated,” he said, further urging the contractor to push for higher standards.

The lawmaker also stated that the committee would engage with the STDD to address any obstacles hindering progress as the road project approaches completion in time for the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in May.

Earlier, the STDD Coordinator, Mr. Abdulkadir Kiflu, praised the committee for its commitment to improving Nigerians’ quality of life through quality road projects. He assured that measures were in place to ensure that all projects would be delivered on time and with the highest standards of construction.
