At a briefing in Ibadan on Thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, emphasized the significance of the initiative, which aims to reduce the cost burden on farmers by covering 50% of the expenses for every acre of farmland mechanically ploughed.

“For every acre mechanically ploughed, farmers will only pay half of the cost while the government undertakes the remaining 50%,” Olaleye explained.

The tractorisation subsidy programme, which began in 2024, has already yielded positive outcomes, benefiting 1,487 farmers with subsidies covering 6,090.91 acres of farmland. The initiative has had a significant impact on small and medium-scale farmers, many of whom have transitioned from traditional manual farming methods to more efficient mechanical methods.

Olaleye urged farmers to take full advantage of the programme to enhance their productivity, calling on all interested parties to register through Agricultural Extension Officers in their local government areas or at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Ibadan.

The commissioner also underscored the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde to driving progressive agricultural development in the state. He expressed optimism that the tractorisation subsidy would continue to transform the agricultural landscape and improve farming efficiency across Oyo State.

“This initiative represents Gov. Seyi Makinde’s commitment to progressive and sustainable agricultural development. We are determined to make a breakthrough for agriculture in the state in 2025,” Olaleye said.
