A tragic tanker explosion on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos on March 11, 2025, has claimed one life and left three others severely injured. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that the injured individuals were rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital’s burns unit, while one male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred when a tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) burst into flames, causing panic among residents and motorists. Emergency responders, including LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team and the Lagos State Fire Service, were swiftly deployed to control the fire.
The explosion affected nearby structures, including a church, a residential house, and mechanic workshops near Otedola Under Bridge, adjacent to CMD Road. Authorities cordoned off the area and urged motorists to use alternative routes as recovery efforts continued.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) warned against motorists attempting to navigate through the affected zone, emphasizing that such behavior poses extreme risks to public safety.
Efforts to fully extinguish the flames and secure the scene are ongoing as authorities continue to assess the damage.
