Nigeria’s under-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, edged closer to qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a dominant 2-0 victory over South Africa in Ikenne. The win secured a commanding 5-1 aggregate score in their second-round qualifier, as they progressed to the third and final round.
After a 3-1 victory in the first leg in Pretoria, the Flamingos entered the return fixture at the Remo Stars Stadium with confidence. Harmony Chidi, who had netted twice in the first leg, once again proved to be the standout performer. Just before halftime, she opened the scoring with a well-timed header off a cross from Shakirat Moshood, who had also scored in the first leg.
Aishat Animashaun sealed the win with a second goal, ensuring Nigeria’s comprehensive victory. The Flamingos will now face either Algeria or Botswana in the final round of qualifiers as they continue their journey toward a place in the prestigious FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
