Naija247news gathered that the complaints ranged from issues of overbilling, poor power supply, faulty meters, delayed resolution of faults, and inefficiency in customer service delivery. PHED and EKEDC reportedly received thousands of complaints from consumers dissatisfied with their services, marking them as the worst-performing DisCos in terms of customer satisfaction during the period under review.

According to Naija247news, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had previously issued warnings to power distribution companies over increasing consumer grievances, emphasizing the need for improved service delivery. However, despite regulatory interventions, PHED and EKEDC continued to struggle with addressing customer concerns.

Naija247news understands that the high volume of complaints against PHED and EKEDC was largely due to prolonged outages and irregular billing practices, which many customers described as exploitative. In Port Harcourt and its environs, several businesses and households lamented persistent blackouts, with some areas experiencing power disruptions for weeks. Similarly, consumers under EKEDC’s coverage in Lagos and Ogun states raised concerns over estimated billing and alleged fraudulent charges.

A Lagos resident who spoke to Naija247news said, “I have been battling with EKEDC for months over my electricity bill. They keep charging me outrageous amounts even when there is no power supply. Their customer service is unresponsive.”

Naija247news reports that while PHED and EKEDC topped the list of complaints, other DisCos, including Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), also received a significant number of customer grievances. The NERC report indicates that power consumers across the country remain frustrated with the inefficiencies plaguing the sector.

Industry analysts believe that without decisive action, the growing dissatisfaction could lead to increased regulatory scrutiny and possible sanctions against the worst-performing DisCos. Naija247news will continue to monitor developments within the power sector as efforts to improve electricity distribution remain a pressing concern for millions of Nigerians.
