Abuja, March 24, 2025 (Naija247news) – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully intercepted 488 live AK-47 rounds and arrested a suspect involved in the shipment of the illegal firearms. The police made the breakthrough on March 24, at the Nyanya bus terminal in Abuja.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the interception was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and proactively prevent crime. The arrest was carried out by operatives from the Nyanya Division, who worked in collaboration with officials from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The suspect was found with the ammunition, which was concealed in two 25-litre jerrycans of palm oil. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he was paid N100,000 to transport the firearms from an unknown contact in Nasarawa State to Katsina.
Adeh highlighted that the arrest underscores the FCT Police’s determination to disrupt criminal activities and prevent the circulation of illegal weapons that contribute to violent crime in the region.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation. Adeh further called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
