Abuja, March 24, 2025 (Naija247news) – Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been nominated as the 2025 Founders Sunhak Peace Award recipient. The announcement was made by his Special Adviser, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja.

According to Eze, Jonathan becomes the third recipient and the first African leader to win this category of the award, following former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee recognized Jonathan for his consistent efforts in mediating conflicts and promoting pro-democracy activities across Africa, particularly through his leadership in various organizations such as the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF), the West African Elders’ Forum (WAEF), and the International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP).
The Founders Sunhak Peace Award is awarded biennially to individuals and organizations making significant contributions to global peace and human development. Jonathan will be receiving the award alongside other distinguished individuals, including Patrick Awuah Jr., founder of Ashesi University in Ghana, Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen, and Wanjira Mathai, Regional Director for Africa at the World Resources Institute.
The award ceremony will also be graced by remarks from Dr Hak Ja Han Moon, founder of the Sunhak Peace Prize, who expressed that the laureates’ work has been a testament to the power of peace through concrete actions and cultural transformation.
