Catholic Priest, Reverend Father John Ubaechu Kidnapped in Imo State, Archdiocese Calls for Prayers

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has confirmed the abduction of Reverend Father John Ubaechu, the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Izombe, in Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State.

According to a statement signed by the Archdiocese Secretary, Reverend Father Patrick Mbarah, the priest was kidnapped on Sunday, March 23, 2025, along Ejemekwuru Road while on his way to the Priests’ Annual Retreat.

The Archdiocese has called on Christian faithful and people of goodwill to pray for his quick and safe release.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation. The state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said Commissioner of Police Danjuma Aboki has ordered an intelligence-led operation to ensure the priest’s unconditional rescue and release.

Authorities have urged the public to provide any useful information that may assist in securing the priest’s release.
