The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on traditional rulers in the state to avoid involvement in partisan politics and focus on their critical roles in promoting peace and stability. Ibas made this plea during a meeting with the traditional rulers at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he also expressed his deep affection for the Niger Delta region.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Ibas, a retired Vice Admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff, emphasized the importance of Rivers State in the national development landscape and lamented the ongoing instability in the state. “As a former naval chief, my duty was to protect lives, and I remain committed to restoring peace in Rivers State,” he stated.
He assured the traditional rulers that his administration would work relentlessly to bring Rivers State back to a place of pride and stability, emphasizing that the state’s well-being must take precedence over personal interests. “A society without order is a society without progress,” Ibas remarked.
The administrator described traditional rulers as a vital bridge between the government and the people and urged them to use their influence to calm tensions within their communities. He stressed the importance of maintaining neutrality in political matters, warning against any form of political partisanship, as well as associations with cultism and vandalism.
Ibas also reminded the traditional rulers of their role in community policing, urging them to maintain open communication with their subjects. “Security is the responsibility of all, not just the government,” he said, reiterating his administration’s commitment to not tolerating disorder.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Ibas reassured the traditional rulers that his administration was open to suggestions and collaboration for the betterment of the state.
In response, HRM Chike Worlu-Wodo, Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, assured the Sole Administrator of their full support. He described Ibas’ appointment as a positive step for the state and affirmed that the traditional rulers remain dedicated to ensuring peace within their domains.
“As traditional rulers, our primary duty is to ensure peace in our kingdoms, clans, and communities,” Worlu-Wodo said, offering his best wishes to the administrator and emphasizing the pressing need for peace in Rivers State.
