For the first time in a month, the 88-year-old pontiff actively concelebrated Mass, going beyond mere participation or receiving the Eucharist as he had done in previous weeks. Concelebration means he joined other priests in presiding over the service, signaling a notable step in his recovery.

Pope Francis Continues Treatment Amid Support from Well-Wishers

The Vatican confirmed that the pope continued with his treatments and therapies on Sunday, refraining from receiving visitors while maintaining his work schedule. He has been battling pneumonia, making this his longest hospitalization since his election 12 years ago.

Earlier on Sunday, Francis expressed gratitude for prayers during what he called a “period of trial” in a pre-written text of his weekly Angelus prayer.

In a touching display of support, dozens of schoolchildren gathered outside the hospital at dawn, holding yellow and white balloons—the colors of the Holy See—while chanting “Viva il Papa.” Some later entered the hospital with balloons and flowers to show their affection.

Pope Francis Calls for Global Peace Amid Health Challenges

“I thank you all for your prayers, and I thank those who assist me with such dedication. I know that many children are praying for me; some of them came here today as a sign of closeness. Thank you, dearest children! The Pope loves you and is always waiting to meet you,” the Pontiff said in his message.

He also used the moment to call for prayers for peace in conflict-ridden nations, including Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Pope Francis Remains in Stable Condition, Plans to Continue Leadership

The Vatican has confirmed that the pope remains in stable condition but still requires ongoing medical care. His need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night has been gradually reduced, while he continues high-flow oxygen therapy during the day.

Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis remains committed to his leadership role, recently approving a new three-year reform process for the Catholic Church.
