The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed allegations made by the former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, claiming that his former commissioner for Local Government and Education, Jafaru Sani, was abducted by a police kidnapping gang allegedly linked to Governor Uba Sani. The police referred to the accusation as unfounded, false, and misleading, asserting that no such gang exists within the force.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!El-Rufai had posted a statement on his X handle on Thursday, alleging that Sani was abducted by individuals posing as police officers and subsequently remanded in prison custody by a magistrate court without any formal charges or a police report. He further claimed that the real reason behind Sani’s detention was his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), his shift to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and his nomination by El-Rufai as a potential minister for Kaduna State in August 2023.
The former governor also alleged that Sani was facing charges of money laundering, a federal offense for which neither the Kaduna State Judiciary nor the Police have jurisdiction.
Responding to these claims, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, clarified that no kidnapping gang exists within the police force. He emphasized that the Nigerian Police Force, established by law, is responsible for maintaining law and order, including the protection of citizens’ lives and property. He stated that police have the legal authority to arrest and investigate individuals suspected of committing offenses.
Hassan further explained that any individual or entity has the constitutional right to file a formal complaint with the police, and when an offense is suspected, it will be investigated, with the possibility of prosecution or referral to the court.
The police also urged the public, especially those in positions of authority, to exercise caution and avoid making frivolous and malicious allegations against security agencies. They called for verification of claims before making public statements, warning that unverified allegations can mislead the public and potentially harm law enforcement agencies’ reputations. Citizens were encouraged to seek legal recourse if they feel wronged rather than resort to inflammatory comments that could destabilize the political environment.
