PDP Disciplinary Committee Receives Petition Against Anyanwu for Anti-Party Activities

Date:

A letter signed by Tom Ikimi, dated March 10, 2025, and received by the office of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, revealed new developments in the ongoing disciplinary matters within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The letter disclosed that Senator Samuel Anyanwu had failed to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee despite being given the opportunity to defend himself against allegations filed by the PDP Young Generation Caucus.

The petition accused Anyanwu of engaging in anti-party activities, which are in violation of the PDP Constitution, specifically Article 58 (1)(f). The accusations also included charges of conduct that could disrupt the peaceful and lawful operations of the party, contrary to provisions outlined in Article 58(1)(h). The allegations stem from incidents on January 29 and February 1, 2025, during which Anyanwu reportedly invited security agents and thugs to interfere in party affairs at the PDP headquarters.

The committee, having completed its review of the petition, will submit its recommendations to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, which is expected to make the final decision on Anyanwu’s fate within the party.

In addition to these allegations, Anyanwu has been embroiled in a dispute with Sunday Ude-Okoye over the position of the National Secretary of the PDP. The Court of Appeal had earlier ruled in favor of Ude-Okoye, upholding a Federal High Court judgment that removed Anyanwu from the office. Anyanwu, however, has appealed this decision to the Supreme Court, which recently reserved judgment on the case.

As the PDP leadership grapples with internal disputes, the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against Anyanwu and his ongoing legal battle for the National Secretary position remains a focal point for the party’s future direction.
