Full Story: Amaju Pinnick, the former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, lost his re-election bid for a seat on the FIFA Council at the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly held in Cairo on Wednesday, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in attendance.

Africa holds seven seats on the FIFA Council, and one seat is reserved for a woman. The elected members are:
Fouzi Lekja: 49 votes
Hani Abou Ridha: 35 votes
Djibrilla Hima: 35 votes
Ahmed Yahya: 29 votes
Souleymane Waberi: 29 votes
Women’s Slot: Kanozat Ibrahim: 30 votes
Other contenders who lost in the election included:
Andrew Kamanga: 19 votes
Yacine Diallo: 18 votes
Augustin Senghor: 13 votes
Pinnick’s loss marks the end of his tenure on the FIFA Council. He had served since his election in March 2021 at the 43rd CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco. Pinnick became the third Nigerian to hold a FIFA Council seat, following the late Etubom Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu.
Meanwhile, CAF President Patrice Motsepe was re-elected for a second term, securing a second four-year term in office. His re-election took place by acclamation, as he succeeded Malagasy Ahmad Ahmad, who had been suspended by FIFA due to financial misconduct.
