A drama unfolded at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters on Wednesday when Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s convoy arrived, only to find the entrance gate locked by security personnel. The security officers at the quarters explained that they had locked the gates due to a lack of official communication between the governor and the Assembly regarding his visit.

Additionally, the Rivers State Government had shared a formal letter with the House to inform them of the governor’s planned visit.
The standoff occurred against the backdrop of political tensions in the state. Fubara had previously announced plans to fully implement the Supreme Court’s judgment handed down on February 28, 2025, which involved the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) organizing a fresh local government election, scheduled for August 9, 2025. The state government also planned to present the 2025 budget to the Assembly, with Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, seeking a meeting with the lawmakers for peace talks.
However, the Assembly insisted that the governor should properly channel his invitation. This situation has added to the ongoing political instability in Rivers State, as the power struggle between the governor and the Assembly continues to unfold.
