Speculation over Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections has intensified following claims that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), may soon defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, made the assertion during an interview on TVC’s Breakfast Show, stating that the Labour Party was losing members to the APC.
“Do you know we are emptying the Labour Party? Not because we are asking them to come, they are coming. Valentine Ozigbo has joined us, Balami has joined us, even Peter Obi will join us,” Bwala declared.
His remarks come amid reports that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), further fueling discussions about political realignments.
The claim has sparked widespread reactions, as Obi remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures. However, neither Obi nor the Labour Party has responded to Bwala’s statement.
With shifting alliances shaping the political landscape ahead of 2027, Bwala’s comments add to growing speculation about the future of Nigeria’s opposition and potential high-profile defections.
