On Monday, the Nigerian Army announced the successful rescue of 75 civilian captives from key Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist enclaves within the Sambisa Forest in Borno State. The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj. Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, made the announcement during a handover ceremony at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri. The rescued civilians, including 7 adult males, 34 women, and 34 children, were freed during a series of successful offensive operations by troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and 199 Special Forces Battalion.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The operations, conducted under Operation Desert Sanity IV, targeted and cleared terrorist hideouts in several areas, including Ukuba, Njimia, Sabil Huda, Garin Falluja, and Gobara. The military reported significant success, including the neutralization of insurgents and the destruction of enemy structures, such as command and logistics bases, weapon caches, and IED-making materials.
Gen. Shuaibu emphasized that the operation dealt a severe blow to insurgent capabilities, significantly disrupting their life-supporting structures. He also highlighted the collective effort between OPHK, the Borno State government, and other stakeholders in stabilizing the North-East region and ensuring the safety of civilians impacted by the insurgency.
Beyond combat operations, OPHK is committed to providing humanitarian aid. During the recent offensive, troops offered child vaccinations, first aid, medical care, and the distribution of food and relief materials. The rescued civilians received immediate medical attention, food, clothing, and psychological support.
The Borno State government, represented by the Director of Social Welfare, Hajiya Aisha Shettima, praised the military for their efforts in rescuing the victims. She assured that the rescued individuals would be taken to the State’s rehabilitation center, where they would receive livelihood support, mental health care, and other necessary services as part of their reintegration into society.
OPHK remains committed to securing liberated areas, eliminating insurgent threats, and creating a conducive environment for governance and socio-economic development in the region. The Nigerian Army continues to urge the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and report any suspicious activities to support collective security efforts.
