President Bola Tinubu has approved the adoption of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, as a Federal University. The decision, announced by the Presidency on Sunday, marks a significant step in enhancing teacher education nationwide.
President Tinubu praised the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to oversee TASUED, describing the institution as one of the state’s top educational assets. He highlighted the move as a tribute to late education icons Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Tai Solarin for their contributions to learning and leadership development.
TASUED, established in 2005 as Nigeria’s first specialized university of education, will now join Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri and Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo as the country’s federally recognized universities dedicated to teacher education.
The institution’s transition is expected to require minimal federal investment due to its existing infrastructure and academic structure. TASUED also becomes the first federal tertiary institution in Ogun East senatorial district.
