During the commissioning of the third Fire Service Station within a week, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property, a core responsibility of any government.
Governor Fubara stated, “We can feel your support here. I want to also appreciate the support of the good people of Rivers State, who kept believing in us.” He assured the people that his administration would continue working diligently to make life better and advance the state. The newly commissioned Fire Service Station at Rumuodumaya, he explained, will offer a prompt response to fire emergencies, safeguarding lives and property in Obio/Akpor and its surrounding areas.
The Governor expressed excitement about showcasing the newly unveiled Fire Service Station, underscoring that it aligns with his administration’s focus on prioritizing the people’s well-being. He noted that this was the third such facility inaugurated within a short period, emphasizing that the primary goal was to safeguard citizens’ lives and property, a key aspect of good governance.
The Governor’s remarks were echoed by Chief Hanny Woko, a key stakeholder from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, who commended the Governor for executing people-oriented projects despite ongoing political challenges in the state. Woko emphasized the importance of allowing Governor Fubara to complete his tenure, advocating for equity and fairness in governance. He highlighted that the Ikwerre people, along with other ethnic groups in the state, should support Fubara’s administration in the interest of peace and stability.
Woko further urged political actors in the state to prioritize the collective interest of Rivers State over personal or political conflicts, drawing inspiration from other states, such as Lagos, that have experienced smooth governance transitions.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Duties, Dr. Samuel Anya, provided details about the project, revealing that the Rumuodumaya Fire Service Sub-Station, initially built under the administration of Chibuike Amaechi, had been abandoned. Governor Fubara’s administration, however, rehabilitated and functionalized the station, providing 54 offices, staff quarters, new fire trucks, and a 45,000-liter water tank. This investment, he said, would significantly improve fire emergency response in the region.
The commissioning of the Fire Service Station marks another significant achievement in Governor Fubara’s administration as he continues to focus on the welfare and safety of Rivers State residents.
