President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as Special Adviser and Coordinator for the Presidential Livestock Reform.

Jega, who served as the vice chancellor of Bayero University and chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu, is tasked with reinforcing the reforms introduced by the committee. One of their key recommendations was the establishment of a dedicated Livestock Ministry, which has now been implemented with a minister appointed.
At 68, Jega remains an influential figure, serving on the International Elections Advisory Council and as pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State. His tenure as INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015 solidified his reputation in both academic and public service sectors.
Onanuga highlighted that Jega’s new role will help ensure the continued success and momentum of the ongoing livestock reforms.
