Federal Government Launches Free Treatment for Women with Obstetric Complications and Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF)
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Federal Government of Nigeria has enlisted 154 health facilities across the country to provide free treatment for women experiencing obstetric complications, which can arise during pregnancy, labor, delivery, or the postpartum period. These complications can pose serious risks to both the mother and the baby, affecting their health and well-being.
Professor Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, made this announcement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Friday. He emphasized that these selected facilities are equipped with highly skilled personnel, state-of-the-art equipment, and a strong commitment to providing quality healthcare.
In addition to the general obstetric services, 18 specialized centres have been designated for the free treatment of women with vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), a debilitating condition often caused by prolonged or obstructed labor, leading to incontinence and social stigma.
The Minister also shared a full list of the health facilities offering these free services, as part of the government’s effort to ensure that vulnerable women have access to the medical care they need. This initiative is a significant step towards improving maternal health and addressing obstetric-related complications across the country.
