According to Naija247news, the Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu, revealed the government’s decision during a press briefing in Awka on Tuesday. He stated that the enforcement would focus on areas with high levels of noise pollution, including markets, worship centers, and event venues. “Noise pollution is a serious public health concern, and we are committed to addressing it through strict enforcement of existing laws,” Odimegwu said.

Naija247news understands that the Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency (ANSEPA) will lead the enforcement efforts, with support from law enforcement agencies. Offenders risk fines, closure of their premises, or prosecution, depending on the severity of the violation.

According to Naija247news, the government’s decision has been welcomed by residents, many of whom have complained about the constant noise from loudspeakers, generators, and social gatherings. “This is a long-overdue intervention. The noise in our neighborhoods has become unbearable,” said a resident of Onitsha who spoke to Naija247news.

Naija247news reports that the enforcement drive will also target religious organizations, which have been identified as major contributors to noise pollution. The government has urged religious leaders to comply with the law and avoid using loudspeakers during late hours.

According to Naija247news, the Anambra State Government has launched a public awareness campaign to educate residents on the dangers of noise pollution and the importance of compliance. The campaign will include radio jingles, town hall meetings, and community outreach programs.

Naija247news gathered that stakeholders in the entertainment and hospitality industries have expressed concerns about the potential impact of the enforcement on their businesses. However, the government has assured them that the measures are not intended to stifle economic activities but to ensure a balance between development and environmental sustainability.

As the enforcement drive begins, Naija247news will monitor its implementation and provide updates on its impact on residents and businesses. The Anambra State Government’s commitment to tackling noise pollution underscores its dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
