The president extended condolences to the government and people of Ogun State, particularly Okupe’s hometown of Iperu-Remo, acknowledging the void his passing leaves.

Peter Obi: ‘A Profound Loss’

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who worked closely with Okupe during the campaign, also mourned his passing. Describing him as an active political figure who desired a better Nigeria, Obi called his death a profound loss not only to his family but to the nation.

Taking to his X handle, Obi urged the Obidient Movement and others to pray for Okupe’s soul and support his family in these difficult times.

Labour Party: ‘He Believed in a New Nigeria’

The Labour Party (LP), in a statement by its National Chairman Julius Abure, expressed shock and sadness over Okupe’s passing.

Abure praised Okupe’s charismatic leadership, emphasizing that his role as the Director-General of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign showcased his statesmanship and unwavering belief in Nigeria’s progress.

“Though he resigned from the party last year on principle, he remained a valued associate, offering invaluable advice,” Abure noted. “His energy, honesty, and creativity will be sorely missed.”

The party described Okupe’s death as a huge loss, saying he still had much to contribute to national development before his untimely passing.

A Legacy Remembered

Okupe, a veteran political strategist and medical doctor, played key roles in multiple administrations, serving as a spokesman for Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. His commitment to public service and his expertise in political communication earned him respect across party lines.

As the nation mourns, tributes continue to pour in, honoring a man whose political career spanned decades and whose vision for a better Nigeria will not be forgotten.
