Former Minister of Transportation, Abiye Sekibo, has urged President Bola Tinubu to support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as a unifying force in the state’s politics. Sekibo also called on the people of Rivers to stand by the governor as he navigates the complexities of governance.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Sekibo, who previously served as the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, dismissed political narratives suggesting that Governor Fubara’s administration is being influenced by loyalists of former Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. He argued that political alliances are fluid, noting that some former Atiku allies are now part of President Tinubu’s political camp in Abuja.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Borikiri Fire Service Outstation in Port Harcourt, Sekibo reminded the audience of the political resilience of Rivers people, particularly the women of Okrika and Ogu/Bolo, who famously protested unclad in 2019 against alleged electoral malpractice. He highlighted the governor’s efforts in prioritizing infrastructure development, pointing to the newly commissioned fire station as proof of an administration focused on delivering essential public services.
Governor Fubara, in his remarks, reiterated his administration’s commitment to public safety and the delivery of critical infrastructure projects. He stressed the importance of a well-equipped fire service, especially in a densely populated area like Borikiri, to enhance emergency response and disaster management.
The Borikiri Fire Service Outstation is one of three fire stations recently remodeled by the Rivers State government, with this being the second to be inaugurated within three days. Along with the facility upgrade, newly acquired firefighting trucks were also unveiled, reinforcing the state’s preparedness for fire emergencies.
Commissioner for Special Duties, Sam Anya, assured residents that the state government is actively working to rebuild key public institutions that had been neglected. He emphasized that the new fire service infrastructure would greatly improve emergency response capabilities and ensure the safety of lives and property in Rivers State.
