The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has pledged to collaborate with Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, the Senator representing Funtua Senatorial District in Katsina State, to facilitate the creation of a new state, named “Karaduwa.” This initiative is aimed at fostering meaningful development and economic prosperity for the people of the region.

He emphasized that despite the challenges, the creation of the new state is achievable. “I will work with my brother, Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, to ensure the creation of a new state in Katsina called Karaduwa. I welcome the agitation by Karaduwa people, they are agrarian and they have all it takes to have a state,” Jibrin said. “The agitation is apt and germane, and I am supporting them despite the fact that it’s a bit difficult, but it is possible,” he added.
The event also saw the distribution of various Ramadan food items and empowerment materials to thousands of women and youth in the region. This initiative was led by Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund. Dan-Dutse, who represents Katsina South Senatorial District, expressed his commitment to progressing despite the prevailing economic challenges and security concerns.
In his remarks, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, represented by his deputy Hon. Faruk Jobe, highlighted the achievements of his administration. These include significant investments in the education sector, such as the construction of 152 new secondary schools, renovations of primary schools, and scholarships for 109 children from underprivileged backgrounds to study medicine, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology abroad. “We spent the sum of 120 billion naira on the education sector where we built 152 new secondary schools besides renovating primary schools,” Governor Radda stated. He also urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment items to refrain from selling them and to continue supporting the government with their prayers, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Senator Muntari Dan-Dutse also shared updates on major infrastructural developments, particularly in the education sector. He mentioned the facilitation of the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Funtua, which is set to commence operations. “In terms of infrastructural development, we facilitated the Federal University of Medical and Health Science in Funtua, which is going to take off in Funtua,” Dan-Dutse said. He praised the Katsina State Governor for committing three billion Naira to the project, noting that it was included in the 2025 budget. The senator highlighted that the university would serve as a catalyst for educational development not only for Katsina State but for the Northwest region and Nigeria as a whole. Funtua’s strategic location, connecting several other states, was also noted as a significant advantage.
The empowerment program distributed a wide range of items across the 117 polling units in the 11 local government areas of the Funtua Senatorial District. These included 8 trailers containing 5,439 bags of fertilizer, 4 trailers with 3,795 bags of rice, 1 trailer with 1,100 bags of maize powder, 100 tricycles, 350 motorcycles, 384 sets of sewing machines, 110 sets of grinding machines, 1,650 bags of assorted rice seedlings, 3,000 cartons of bottled water, and 11,700 bags of table water. The benefiting local governments were: Bakori, Musawa, Kankara, Kafur, Faskari, Matazu, Danja, Funtua, Dandume, Malumfashi, and Sabuwa LGAs.
Senator Jibrin and Senator Dan-Dutse’s collaboration highlights their commitment to improving the socio-economic conditions of the people of Katsina State through both political advocacy for state creation and practical initiatives like food distribution and empowerment during Ramadan.
